INFORMATION ON OUR VIOLIN LESSONS
WHAT EXPECTATIONS SHOULD I HAVE?
Violins are quite affordable, and they come in different sizes accommodating the smallest students. We highly recommend our students to bring their own violin, with a shoulder rest, on their second lesson.
Our violin students begin by learning the parts of the instrument and how to properly hold their instrument. It often takes several lessons to achieve the necessary comfort level of holding the instrument, developing strength of the fingers and hands to producing musical sound.
Violin lessons at our school are designed for students from 6 years old to adults. Young beginners (5 years old) are evaluated for readiness. Our string teachers will be able to teach in variety of teaching methods that will be customized to the students individual musical goals. Our string teachers are highly qualified, and many of them perform regularly with local orchestras and bands.
WHAT IS THE BEST STRING INSTRUMENT TO START LESSONS?
It is often advised to get started beginning students on the violin first before introducing or switching to viola or cello, because violin is smaller and more navigable for the little hands and fingers. We stock student violins in 5 sizes. that come with everything you need to get started, and offer them to our students at our cost.
HOW GOOD ARE YOUR INSTRUCTORS?
We are extremely selective in the type of teachers we hire. We seek out instructors who have extensive credentials, can relate to people of all ages, and most importantly, have a passion for showing others how to play music. Just being good at playing doesn't automatically make you a qualified teacher--that's why we look to hire the best mentors for our private lesson program.
We hired teachers from across the country, who embody the high values at Fort Myers School of Music. Our instructors have years of education and practical teaching experience. Aside from receiving extensive training, our teachers are extremely friendly, highly personable, and are dedicated to get to know each student and their parent on a personal level. There's no need for you to search all over Lee county because we have found the best teachers willing to work with you at a price you can afford.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR ME TO LEARN?
Are you looking to just play a couple of songs or do you really wish to master the instrument? With regular practice, a basic level of playing can be accomplished in just a few months. One of the great things about learning how to play a violin is that you can always improve. And a great deal of our students have so much fun in their lessons, they keep on going for a long time as they strive to keep on continuously improving.
SO HOW CAN I HELP MY CHILD PRACTICE IF I DON'T HAVE ANY MUSICAL BACKGROUND?
Our teachers are well versed in providing easy ways that parents can help their children at home even if they don't know how to play an instrument. Simply monitoring and encouraging your child will go a long way. We also invite parents if they would like to sit in on their child's music lesson to understand what the teacher is doing and see first hand what they can do to help out with practicing at home.
